 HOW TO RESTORE LOST VISION?

ACTS 9:1-19 Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord’s followers. So he went to the high priest. 

2 He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them—both men and women—back to Jerusalem in chains.

3 As he was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. 

4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”

5 “Who are you, lord?” Saul asked.

And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! 

6 Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

7 The men with Saul stood speechless, for they heard the sound of someone’s voice but saw no one! 

8 Saul picked himself up off the ground, but when he opened his eyes he was blind. So his companions led him by the hand to Damascus. 

9 He remained there blind for three days and did not eat or drink.

10 Now there was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, calling, “Ananias!”

“Yes, Lord!” he replied.

11 The Lord said, “Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now. 

12 I have shown him a vision of a man named Ananias coming in and laying hands on him so he can see again.”

13 “But Lord,” exclaimed Ananias, “I’ve heard many people talk about the terrible things this man has done to the believers in Jerusalem! 

14 And he is authorized by the leading priests to arrest everyone who calls upon your name.”

15 But the Lord said, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. 

16 And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

17 So Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 

18 Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized. 

19 Afterward he ate some food and regained his strength.

Romans 8:28-29 (CEV) We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves Him.  They are the ones God has chosen for His purpose, and He has always known who His chosen ones would be.  He had decided to let them become like His own Son, so that His Son would be the first of many children.

The work of the Holy Spirit is to show us what we are to know and be - spiritually in Christ

Appreciation and love for Jesus gets rid of the anxiety of spiritual growth

Spiritual growth comes from being occupied with Jesus – giving Him His place in everything

Ephesians 4:13  Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

It was in the year King Uzziah died that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. 

2 Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 

3 They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!”

4 Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke.

5 Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. 

7 He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”

8 Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

HOW DO WE GET A VISION FOR OUR LIFE?

  • VISION IS FOR NOW
  • VISION IS IN THE PRESENCE

PHILIPPIANS 3:12-14 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

VISION IS PARTNERING WITH GOD’S FUTURE

HAVING A VISION FOR YOUR LIFE IN CHRIST WILL NOT MAKE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS DISAPPEAR, 

    BUT IT WILL GIVE YOUR LIFE PURPOSE. 

        AND WHEN YOUR LIFE HAS PURPOSE

            YOU CAN PUSH THROUGH ANY LEVEL OF PAIN.

TRANSFORMATION

James 5:9-11

9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

10 Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophetswho spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. Judges 6:6-12

6 Midian so impoverished the Israelites that they cried out to the Lord for help.

7 When the Israelites cried out to the Lord because of Midian, 8 he sent them a prophet, who said, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 9 I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians. The book of judges reveals the heart of our JUDGE

Genesis 1:28-29

And God Blessed them. And God Said to them, “Be fruitful and multiple and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. And God Said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

Genesis 2:8-9; 15-16

8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying “you may surely eat of every tree of the Garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die.”

We all have Gardens to Grow, whether you like it or not you’re already growing a Garden

    • But there’s Good news
    • God did not leave us without a clue

Genesis 1 – 3 is an image of God’s original design(BLUEPRINT). Creation, Eden, Man. Fellowship in the cool of the day. Most theologians believe if you want to know God’s plan go to the Garden.

THE PLAN (GARDEN BLUEPRINT) 

Our Call

Our Scripture tells that the Lord Spoke 

    • The Word of God is Truth. 
    • The word of God Never returns void 
      • No matter what the world around us says; the Word of God is what it really is. 
    • The first thing He spoke to man, “Be Fruitful.” “Fill the Earth”. “Take Dominion.” 
      • Not a suggestion; it was a charge. 
      • A commission 

Genesis 2 says that He formed Adam; then created the garden; then placed Adam in the garden

    • He told Adam before Adam was ever in the garden what Adam was supposed to do. 
      • Plant seed.

BEFORE ADAM WAS EVER IN HIS PLACE ADAM HAD A CALL

He told Adam what he was capable of doing and what God said he would be able to do; then God gave him the tools to do it. 

He showed Adam all the things that he had to work with to accomplish this, he said here’s plants here’s seed here’s animals, and then he put Adam in the Garden.

We as a church have been going through a season of change

    • God has been reshaping us, telling us what He expects from us, what we’d be able to do and how to do it
      • Giving us a new identity 
      • He has called, He has Equipped and now we’re in our Garden, and we’re being given a Charge – To be Seen and known as Disciples of Jesus Christ and Guess what he already planted the Garden
    • He already gave us tools to keep it cultivated
      • Like keep your love on, Creatively worship, Authentically Display Christ
      • All Seeds
    • He’s giving us a Charge – To Be Fruitful, Fill the Southside, Fill the City, Take Dominion

THE TOOLS (TREES AND SEEDS)

He said “plant seeds in this Garden I’m giving you…”

Seeds represent life

SOMETIMES WHAT WE CALL BEING FRUITFUL PRODUCES THE WRONG KIND OF FRUIT

SCRIPTURE

And God Said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

God not only gives you plants that produce seed to grow the garden but also gives it for your benefit. 

Its good for food. 

Its good for you or you can sit there and stare at the most tempting fruit in the garden the whole time

The more of one kind of seed you plant in your Garden, the more of that fruit you’re going to have

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THE SEED?

The Trees in the Garden

Just like there were two Trees in the Garden

Genesis 2:8-9

8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil

The positive and the negative

The fruit promised knowledge of Good and Evil

    • Intimacy with Good and Evil
    • Adam was already given intimacy with Good, because God is Good 
    • He would spend time with Adam in the cool of the day, 
    • God gave Adam all the things that he created and said were good,
    • Intimacy with evil came from staring at a forbidden fruit for too long

We were designed to learn intimacy with God through God Himself

    • Not through a piece of Counterfeit fruit and we were never designed to have intimacy with evil because in God there is no evil

The tree of Life on the other hand

Everlasting life, goodness

1 Peter 1:23 Says since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

I believe That the Jesus is the Tree of Life and has given us seed that will never die 

    • When we partake in Jesus we are given everlasting life
    • Seed that never withers and all we have to do is plant it 
    • Our life in Christ is a life that is imperishable, and it is seed to grow into something that is unexplainable – in our life; in someone else’s life 
    • It’s the size of a mustard seed and grows into the biggest tree of all. 
    • The seed of Jesus, the Seed of the kingdom of God

Genesis 1:28-29

The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying “you may surely eat of every tree of the Garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die.”

GOOD FOR EATING

But if every tree that bore fruit with seed in it was good for eating – then I propose to you that the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and evil never had seed in its fruit because we were charged not to eat it.

It says in our scripture that all the plants that yielded seed were good for eating, 

Man was supposed to totally overwhelm the earth with the good things that could reproduce and give life

IT TAKES A WHILE FOR SEED TO GROW

PERSEVERE AND NOT GROW WEARY

James 1:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

SUDDENLY

So much Good fruit starts growing that the things that we aren’t supposed to look at, to eat, to partake in become totally drowned out by the kingdom of God

SUDDENLY

PLANT POSITIVITY; FIND FREEDOM.

We could eat from the Tree of Life and all the other trees produced from the seed of the Tree of Life and we would live forever in our Garden… 

But you have Choice 

THE CHARGE (GROW GARDENS) 

You see we have a Garden that God has set up for us and we have two trees; 

YOU WILL NEVER BE FRUITFUL IF YOU DO NOT SOW GOOD SEED

God has set up our personal Garden, and then when we come together God has given us a Garden called City on a Hill.

And you have a choice.

To plant the good seed or plant the bad seed

Or you can put the seed in your pocket for later…

You can give The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil more credit and time than it deserves… like that serpent did.

Don’t react to circumstances but responded with What God said about us – so know the Things God says about you

Replaced our labels that we give ourselves or what the enemy calls us with how God sees us

Realized that every time we pray for someone, every time we encourage someone, every time we hug, take out to eat, help financially, we have not only sowed a seed in our Garden but theirs - Or if we Worship more or work hard (Remember work the garden and keep it) doing all things as unto the Lord, Prefer others 

What if every person that walks through those doors is just waiting to see some good fruit in your life to realize that Jesus is the Truth, the Light and way. How will they ever know if you don’t show them.

A SEEDLESS TREE CAN ONLY LAST SO LONG IN A GARDEN OF GOOD FRUIT

INDISPENSABLE AND INTERDEPENDENT

1 Corinthians 12:12-27  The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body.  So it is with the body of Christ.  13) Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free.  But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

14) Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.  15) If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16) And if the ear says,   “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body?  17) If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear?  Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?

18) But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.  19) How strange a body would be if it had only one part!  20) Yes, there are many parts, but only one body.  21) The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.”  The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

22) In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.  23) And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen,  24) while the more honorable parts do not require this special care.  So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.  25) This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other.  26) If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

27) All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 

 

1. Faithfulness and Dependability

   We expect faithfulness and dependability.  

2. Special and Vital

Jesus reached out to people who - by societies standards - were losers and made them winners.

In a fragmented and hurting world the Church can provide what     no other can. 

3. Indispensable and Interdependent

So, each member is indispensable and is interdependent.

4. Significant and Interconnected

Nobody is a Nobody in the Body of Christ.

5. Directed and Gifted

We all have a part to play, and no part is insignificant.

To refuse or neglect to do our part hurts the entire body.

We might not think we need the body - but certainly the body needs us.

MARK 4:35-41 35-38 Late that day he said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side.” They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, “Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?”

39-40 Awake now, he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, “Quiet! Settle down!” The wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass. Jesus reprimanded the disciples: “Why are you such cowards? Don’t you have any faith at all?”

41 They were in absolute awe, staggered. “Who is this, anyway?” they asked. “Wind and sea at his beck and call!”

MARK 6:45-51 45-46 As soon as the meal was finished, Jesus insisted that the disciples get in the boat and go on ahead across to Bethsaida while he dismissed the congregation. After sending them off, he climbed a mountain to pray.

47-49 Late at night, the boat was far out at sea; Jesus was still by himself on land. He could see his men struggling with the oars, the wind having come up against them. At about four o’clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them, walking on the sea. He intended to go right by them. But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and screamed, scared out of their wits.

50-52 Jesus was quick to comfort them: “Courage! It’s me. Don’t be afraid.” As soon as he climbed into the boat, the wind died down. They were stunned, shaking their heads, wondering what was going on. They didn’t understand what he had done at the supper. None of this had yet penetrated their hearts.

MARK 8:11-21 11-12 When they arrived, the Pharisees came out and started in on him, badgering him to prove himself, pushing him up against the wall. Provoked, he said, “Why does this generation clamor for miraculous guarantees? If I have anything to say about it, you’ll not get so much as a hint of a guarantee.”

13-15 He then left them, got back in the boat, and headed for the other side. But the disciples forgot to pack a lunch. Except for a single loaf of bread, there wasn’t a crumb in the boat. Jesus warned, “Be very careful. Keep a sharp eye out for the contaminating yeast of Pharisees and the followers of Herod.”

16-19 Meanwhile, the disciples were finding fault with each other because they had forgotten to bring bread. Jesus overheard and said, “Why are you fussing because you forgot bread? Don’t you see the point of all this? Don’t you get it at all? Remember the five loaves I broke for the five thousand? How many baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” They said, “Twelve.”

20 “And the seven loaves for the four thousand—how many bags full of leftovers did you get?”

“Seven.”

21 He said, “Do you still not get it?”

2 CORINTHIANS 6:2 For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.
