GROWING GARDENS

Genesis 1:28-29

And God Blessed them. And God Said to them, “Be fruitful and multiple and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. And God Said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

Genesis 2:8-9; 15-16

8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying “you may surely eat of every tree of the Garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die.”

We all have Gardens to Grow, whether you like it or not you’re already growing a Garden

    • But there’s Good news
    • God did not leave us without a clue

Genesis 1 – 3 is an image of God’s original design(BLUEPRINT). Creation, Eden, Man. Fellowship in the cool of the day. Most theologians believe if you want to know God’s plan go to the Garden.

THE PLAN (GARDEN BLUEPRINT)

Our Call

Our Scripture tells that the Lord Spoke

    • The Word of God is Truth.
    • The word of God Never returns void
      • No matter what the world around us says; the Word of God is what it really is.
    • The first thing He spoke to man, “Be Fruitful.” “Fill the Earth”. “Take Dominion.”
      • Not a suggestion; it was a charge.
      • A commission

Genesis 2 says that He formed Adam; then created the garden; then placed Adam in the garden

    • He told Adam before Adam was ever in the garden what Adam was supposed to do.
      • Plant seed.

BEFORE ADAM WAS EVER IN HIS PLACE ADAM HAD A CALL

He told Adam what he was capable of doing and what God said he would be able to do; then God gave him the tools to do it.

He showed Adam all the things that he had to work with to accomplish this, he said here’s plants here’s seed here’s animals, and then he put Adam in the Garden.

We as a church have been going through a season of change

    • God has been reshaping us, telling us what He expects from us, what we’d be able to do and how to do it
      • Giving us a new identity
      • He has called, He has Equipped and now we’re in our Garden, and we’re being given a Charge – To be Seen and known as Disciples of Jesus Christ and Guess what he already planted the Garden
    • He already gave us tools to keep it cultivated
      • Like keep your love on, Creatively worship, Authentically Display Christ
      • All Seeds
    • He’s giving us a Charge – To Be Fruitful, Fill the Southside, Fill the City, Take Dominion

THE TOOLS (TREES AND SEEDS)

He said “plant seeds in this Garden I’m giving you…”

Seeds represent life

SOMETIMES WHAT WE CALL BEING FRUITFUL PRODUCES THE WRONG KIND OF FRUIT

SCRIPTURE

And God Said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

God not only gives you plants that produce seed to grow the garden but also gives it for your benefit.

Its good for food.

Its good for you or you can sit there and stare at the most tempting fruit in the garden the whole time

The more of one kind of seed you plant in your Garden, the more of that fruit you’re going to have

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THE SEED?

WHICH SEED ARE YOU PLANTING?

The Trees in the Garden

Just like there were two Trees in the Garden

Genesis 2:8-9

8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil

The positive and the negative

The fruit promised knowledge of Good and Evil

    • Intimacy with Good and Evil
    • Adam was already given intimacy with Good, because God is Good
    • He would spend time with Adam in the cool of the day,
    • God gave Adam all the things that he created and said were good,
    • Intimacy with evil came from staring at a forbidden fruit for too long

We were designed to learn intimacy with God through God Himself

    • Not through a piece of Counterfeit fruit and we were never designed to have intimacy with evil because in God there is no evil

Evil grows so easily but Righteousness must be cultivated – Pastor Jeremy Burk

The tree of Life on the other hand

Everlasting life, goodness

1 Peter 1:23 Says since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;

I believe That the Jesus is the Tree of Life and has given us seed that will never die

    • When we partake in Jesus we are given everlasting life
    • Seed that never withers and all we have to do is plant it
    • Our life in Christ is a life that is imperishable, and it is seed to grow into something that is unexplainable – in our life; in someone else’s life
    • It’s the size of a mustard seed and grows into the biggest tree of all.
    • The seed of Jesus, the Seed of the kingdom of God

Genesis 1:28-29

And God Blessed them. And God Said to them, “Be fruitful and multiple and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. And God Said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.”

Genesis 2:15-16

The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying “you may surely eat of every tree of the Garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die.”

GOOD FOR EATING

But if every tree that bore fruit with seed in it was good for eating – then I propose to you that the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and evil never had seed in its fruit because we were charged not to eat it.

It says in our scripture that all the plants that yielded seed were good for eating,

Man was supposed to totally overwhelm the earth with the good things that could reproduce and give life

IT TAKES A WHILE FOR SEED TO GROW

PERSEVERE AND NOT GROW WEARY

James 1:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV)

3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

SUDDENLY

So much Good fruit starts growing that the things that we aren’t supposed to look at, to eat, to partake in become totally drowned out by the kingdom of God

SUDDENLY

PLANT POSITIVITY; FIND FREEDOM.

We could eat from the Tree of Life and all the other trees produced from the seed of the Tree of Life and we would live forever in our Garden…

But you have Choice

THE CHARGE (GROW GARDENS)

You see we have a Garden that God has set up for us and we have two trees;

YOU WILL NEVER BE FRUITFUL IF YOU DO NOT SOW GOOD SEED

God has set up our personal Garden, and then when we come together God has given us a Garden called City on a Hill.

And you have a choice.

To plant the good seed or plant the bad seed

Or you can put the seed in your pocket for later…

You can give The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil more credit and time than it deserves… like that serpent did.

Don’t react to circumstances but responded with What God said about us – so know the Things God says about you

Replaced our labels that we give ourselves or what the enemy calls us with how God sees us

Realized that every time we pray for someone, every time we encourage someone, every time we hug, take out to eat, help financially, we have not only sowed a seed in our Garden but theirs - Or if we Worship more or work hard (Remember work the garden and keep it) doing all things as unto the Lord, Prefer others

What if every person that walks through those doors is just waiting to see some good fruit in your life to realize that Jesus is the Truth, the Light and way. How will they ever know if you don’t show them.

A SEEDLESS TREE CAN ONLY LAST SO LONG IN A GARDEN OF GOOD FRUIT
